Privacy Policy
Wardrobe Words is operated by Erik Nylander.
Wardrobe Words helps users discover better search terms for second-hand shopping and generate information for clothing listings from images.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Wardrobe Words processes, how that information is used, when information is shared with service providers, and the choices available to users.
For privacy questions, contact [email protected].
1. Information Wardrobe Words processes
Depending on how you use the app, Wardrobe Words may process:
- photos selected from your photo library;
- photos taken with your device camera;
- images shared to Wardrobe Words through the iOS Share Extension;
- cropped or selected areas of images;
- search refinements and other text you provide;
- clothing and style information derived from submitted images;
- generated search terms and marketplace suggestions;
- generated listing titles, descriptions and related information;
- preferences and feedback used to personalise results;
- History, Favorites and Collections stored in the app;
- local usage information needed for features such as free-use limits and review prompts;
- subscription entitlement information provided through Apple StoreKit.
Wardrobe Words does not currently require users to create an account.
2. Photos and image analysis
When you use features such as Find or Sell, Wardrobe Words processes the images you choose in order to identify clothing, style characteristics and other information relevant to the requested feature.
Images may be resized and compressed before they are transmitted.
Images used for analysis are sent securely to the Wardrobe Words backend and may then be sent to the AI service described below.
The Wardrobe Words backend does not intentionally maintain a permanent database or image archive of uploaded images. Submitted images are processed as part of individual requests.
Images may separately be stored locally on your device when required for app features such as History, Favorites or Collections.
3. Artificial intelligence processing
Wardrobe Words uses the Google Gemini Developer API to provide AI-powered image and text analysis.
Depending on the feature being used, information sent for AI processing may include clothing images, relevant image context, search or refinement instructions, previous search context, style preferences, liked or disliked style examples, language and market preferences, and clothing-related information required to generate a listing or search.
Wardrobe Words sends this information through its own backend rather than exposing the Gemini API directly from the iOS app.
Wardrobe Words has disabled the optional Gemini API project logging feature. Google may nevertheless process or temporarily retain information in accordance with its applicable service, security and abuse-prevention policies.
Wardrobe Words does not use submitted or generated content for advertising or cross-app tracking.
4. How information is used
- analyse clothing and style characteristics;
- generate search terms for second-hand marketplaces;
- refine existing searches;
- provide Focus and related search functionality;
- generate marketplace-specific queries;
- generate listing titles and descriptions;
- generate alternative buyer search phrases;
- personalise results based on preferences or feedback;
- maintain History, Favorites and Collections;
- provide free and paid app functionality;
- maintain subscription entitlements;
- detect and diagnose technical problems;
- maintain the security and reliability of the service.
5. Service providers
Google Cloud
The Wardrobe Words backend is hosted using Google Cloud infrastructure. Google Cloud processes technical information necessary to receive, route, secure and operate backend requests. This may include technical request metadata such as IP address, User-Agent, timestamps, response status and network information.
Google Gemini
Wardrobe Words sends images and relevant text or context to Google's Gemini Developer API for AI analysis. Google's processing of that information is subject to Google's applicable terms and privacy practices.
Apple
Wardrobe Words uses Apple services including the App Store, StoreKit, PhotosPicker, camera permissions and the iOS Share Extension system.
Apple processes payments for subscriptions and in-app purchases. Wardrobe Words does not receive or store your payment-card details.
6. External marketplaces
Wardrobe Words can help you open searches on third-party marketplaces, which may include services such as Vinted, Sellpy, Depop, eBay and other supported platforms.
When you choose to open an external marketplace, a generated search query may be included in the URL or otherwise passed to that marketplace.
Once you leave Wardrobe Words, the marketplace's own privacy policy and terms apply. Wardrobe Words does not control how third-party marketplaces process information after you open their service.
7. Information stored on your device
Wardrobe Words stores some information locally on your device in order to provide app functionality. This may include app settings and preferences, language and shopping preferences, History entries, locally stored History images, Favorites, Collections, generated search and listing information, usage counters, and taste and preference information.
Some locally stored information may remain until you remove it using available app functionality or delete Wardrobe Words from your device.
8. Share Extension
Wardrobe Words includes an iOS Share Extension that lets you send images from other apps into Wardrobe Words.
When you use this feature, shared images are temporarily transferred through an iOS App Group container so that the main Wardrobe Words app can receive them.
After a shared-import session has been successfully processed, the corresponding temporary import files are removed. The Share Extension does not create a separate permanent image archive.
9. Technical logs
Wardrobe Words maintains limited technical logs to operate and troubleshoot its backend.
Application logging is designed to contain technical information such as request type, success or failure status, AI model used, processing duration, number of images processed, retry counts and technical error codes.
Wardrobe Words is designed not to intentionally record submitted images, image data, prompts, generated search terms, listing text or other semantic user content in its application logs.
Standard Wardrobe Words application and backend logs are generally retained for up to 7 days.
Infrastructure providers may independently generate security, audit and operational records that are governed by their own retention requirements and policies.
10. Subscriptions and purchases
Wardrobe Words uses Apple's StoreKit framework for subscriptions and other in-app purchase functionality. Apple processes purchase and payment information.
Wardrobe Words may receive information necessary to determine whether a subscription or entitlement is active, but Wardrobe Words does not receive your credit-card or other payment-card details.
11. Analytics, advertising and tracking
Wardrobe Words currently does not integrate third-party advertising networks or third-party analytics SDKs such as Firebase Analytics, Meta SDK, AppsFlyer or similar services.
Wardrobe Words does not currently use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA), request App Tracking Transparency permission, sell personal information to advertisers, or use personal information for cross-app advertising tracking.
12. Device permissions
- Camera permission is requested when you choose to take a clothing photo.
- Photos selected through Apple's PhotosPicker are explicitly chosen by you.
- Images are provided to the Share Extension only when you choose to share them with Wardrobe Words.
You can manage device permissions through the Settings app on your device.
13. Data retention
Wardrobe Words aims to keep information only for as long as it is needed for the relevant functionality.
Uploaded images are not intentionally stored in a permanent image database by the Wardrobe Words backend.
Request data used during image analysis is processed in memory by the backend and is not intentionally written to a Wardrobe Words database or image-storage system.
Some information is stored locally on your device until you remove it or delete the app.
Temporary Share Extension files are removed after the corresponding import has been successfully processed.
Standard Wardrobe Words technical application logs are generally retained for up to 7 days.
Third-party service providers may retain information for different periods according to their applicable terms, security requirements and retention practices.
14. Deleting your information
Wardrobe Words currently does not use user accounts.
You can remove locally stored information through available deletion or clearing features in the app where provided.
Deleting Wardrobe Words from your device will also remove data stored inside the app's local containers, subject to normal iOS behaviour.
If you have a privacy question or want to make a request relating to information processed by Wardrobe Words, contact [email protected].
15. Children's privacy
Wardrobe Words is a general-purpose fashion and second-hand shopping application and is not designed specifically for children.
Wardrobe Words does not use children's personal information for advertising or behavioural profiling purposes.
16. Security
Wardrobe Words uses technical measures intended to protect information processed through the service.
Communication between the app, Wardrobe Words backend and relevant service providers uses encrypted HTTPS connections.
No online service can guarantee absolute security.
17. International processing
Wardrobe Words uses cloud and AI service providers that may process information in locations outside your country of residence.
Where applicable, such processing is subject to the contractual, legal and security arrangements of the relevant service providers.
18. Changes to this Privacy Policy
Wardrobe Words may update this Privacy Policy when its features, service providers or data practices change.
The current version will be made available through the Privacy Policy link in the app and on the Wardrobe Words website.
The date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last updated.
